The motorcycle features a 457cc parallel twin-cylinder engine producing 47.6hp and 43.5Nm of torque, alongside a reworked front and rear suspension to address previous consumer complaints about a stiff ride quality on Indian roads.

The comparison between the two European sport-nakeds manufactured in Maharashtra reveals distinct mechanical philosophies. While the KTM 390 Duke R uses a 398.63cc single-cylinder engine delivering 46hp and 39Nm of torque, the Aprilia maintains a slight power advantage and a smoother power delivery across the rev range. Aprilia has introduced softer compression and rebound damping along with spring preload adjustments on the Special Edition to improve comfort compared to the standard model.

The KTM retains a distinct advantage in onboard features, offering cornering ABS, cruise control, a bi-directional quickshifter, and adjustable levers as standard equipment. With the Aprilia Tuono 457 Special Edition costing Rs 55,000 more than the KTM 390 Duke R, buyers must weigh the smoother twin-cylinder performance and revised ergonomics against the higher price tag and KTM's comprehensive suite of electronic rider aids.
