Anurag Thakur Moves Privilege Notice Against Rahul Gandhi Over Remarks

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur has served a formal privilege notice against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. The three-page notice cites the use of allegedly derogatory language during Gandhi's 'andhbhakts' speech on the floor of the House. Thakur has requested Speaker Om Birla to refer the matter to the Privilege Committee for a comprehensive inquiry. The notice demands that Gandhi tender an unconditional apology to both the House and Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks.

The conflict stems from Rahul Gandhi's recent statements accusing Home Minister Amit Shah of authorizing police excesses against student protesters. Gandhi further alleged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has effectively captured the Indian education system, leading to systemic failures. These comments sparked a fierce backlash from the treasury benches, resulting in the expunging of several portions of the speech from the official records of the House on Wednesday. Thakur argued that the language used was beneath the dignity of the office of the Leader of the Opposition.
