Mumbai Court Frames Terror Charges Against Sachin Waze and Pradeep Sharma

A special court in Mumbai has framed charges against former police officers Sachin Waze and Pradeep Sharma, along with eight others, in connection with the Antilia bomb scare and the murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran. The accused will now face trial under several stringent laws, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosive Substances Act, and the Indian Penal Code. The charges include murder, criminal conspiracy, extortion, and the destruction of evidence, marking a significant legal advancement in a case that has spanned over five years.

The investigation began in February 2021 when a Mahindra Scorpio laden with gelatin sticks was discovered parked outside Antilia, the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) subsequently took over the probe, alleging that Sachin Waze was the mastermind behind the bomb scare, intended to regain his lost glory as a 'super-cop.' Pradeep Sharma, another encounter specialist, was accused of helping Waze dispose of Hiran to cover up the conspiracy.

The framing of charges signifies that the court found sufficient prima facie evidence to proceed with a full trial.
