Annamalai Challenges BJP’s ‘Gujarat-Centric’ Development Strategy

K Annamalai, the BJP President for Tamil Nadu, has publicly criticized the perceived 'Gujarat-centric' development model currently favored by the central leadership. He argued that major national investments, including artificial intelligence hubs, semiconductor plants, and the potential Commonwealth Games bid, should not be concentrated in a single state. Annamalai’s comments represent a significant internal challenge to the party's strategy, suggesting that the current 'Delhi-centric' decision-making process must evolve to empower other states.

The critique stems from a series of high-profile project allocations to Gujarat, which have sparked debate about regional equity. Annamalai emphasized that for India to achieve holistic and inclusive growth, industrial and technological hubs must be established in diverse regions, including the southern and eastern belts. He called for a fundamental change in the development model to ensure that resources and opportunities are shared more broadly across the Indian federation rather than being pooled in traditional power centers.
