Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu Launch AI Urban Planning Tools

Andhra Pradesh has officially launched an artificial intelligence platform designed to forecast urban floods, with Vijayawada selected as the first city for implementation. The Real Time Governance Society developed the platform in collaboration with the State Disaster Management Authority and IIT Gandhinagar. By analyzing three decades of historical data from the Budameru stream and utilizing satellite terrain mapping, the system can provide high-accuracy rainfall and flood forecasts 48 hours in advance.

In Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has directed officials to finalize AI-powered software aimed at expediting the building plan approval process. The initiative seeks to eliminate administrative bottlenecks by automatically verifying applications against state requirements. The Chief Minister emphasized that any application meeting the prescribed standards should be processed without delay, ensuring a more transparent and efficient system for developers and homeowners across the state.

These dual developments signal a significant shift toward technology-driven governance in South India. While Andhra Pradesh focuses on environmental resilience and disaster mitigation, Tamil Nadu is leveraging AI to improve ease of doing business and urban administrative efficiency. Both states are positioning themselves as leaders in the adoption of emerging technologies to solve long-standing infrastructural and regulatory challenges, potentially setting a precedent for other Indian states to follow.
