Students Detained Ahead of Amit Shah's Alwar Development Launch

Rajasthan Police detained a group of college students in Alwar on Sunday, just hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah's scheduled arrival. The students, primarily from RR College, had planned to stage a black flag protest against the Home Minister during his public address. Shah is visiting the state alongside Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to launch development projects valued at ₹6,279 crore. Police officials cited the detentions as a preventive measure to ensure the smooth conduct of the high-profile visit.

The protesters aimed to raise several local and national grievances, including the 2024 NEET-UG paper leak controversy. They also highlighted a previous lathi-charge on activists from the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Other key issues included the alleged Matsya scam involving the fisheries department, poor road conditions in Alwar, and the ongoing demand to restore student union elections in Rajasthan. This pattern of preventive detentions has become frequent ahead of Shah's recent public engagements in states like Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

Despite the detentions, the Home Minister proceeded to launch projects worth ₹783 crore specifically for Alwar district as part of the wider state-level rollout. The political climate remains tense as Opposition leaders demand Shah's resignation over the July crackdown on student protesters in the national capital. The government maintains that the development projects will significantly boost Rajasthan's economy, while student groups allege that their democratic right to protest is being suppressed. The detentions are expected to fuel further debates regarding police action against student movements.
