Kasaragod Student Akhil Joyan's Remains to Reach Home on August 24

The mortal remains of Akhil Joyan, a youth from Kerala's Kasaragod district, are scheduled to arrive at his native village of Vellarikundu on August 24, 2026. This concludes a long and difficult repatriation process following his passing in Ukraine. The logistics involve a coordinated effort between international authorities to ensure the body is returned to his grieving family for final rites. The arrival marks the end of a week of intense coordination involving multiple embassies and transit nations.

Transporting the remains from a conflict-affected region like Ukraine required a multi-stage journey through Europe and the Middle East. The body was first moved by road from Ukraine to Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. From there, it is being flown by Turkish Airlines to Mangaluru via a transit in Istanbul. The remains are expected to reach Bengaluru on August 23, after which they will be transported by ambulance to the family home in Kerala the following day.
