AI Tools Expand Indian Healthcare Patient Capacity, Report Shows

Artificial intelligence tools have substantially increased the patient care capacity for healthcare professionals in India, according to the Philips Future Health Index 2026 India Report. The report, based on a survey of 200 healthcare professionals and over 2,000 patients in India, indicates that 71 percent of Indian healthcare professionals report an expanded daily patient capacity due to AI, significantly higher than the global benchmark of 50 percent. Clinicians experiencing this capacity surge are seeing a median gain of ten additional patient consultations each week.

This expanded capacity is particularly vital for India, given its high patient-to-doctor ratio. Furthermore, approximately 85 percent of surveyed Indian professionals believe AI improves overall patient outcomes, an increase from 75 percent in the previous year. AI is also enhancing workflow efficiency, with 82 percent of respondents noting improvements through automated administrative and diagnostic systems, and 80 percent reporting better access to consolidated patient data across care teams.

Over half of healthcare professionals also reported saving at least 132 hours annually through AI-enabled workflows, allowing for more thorough patient interactions and improved work-life balance. Healthcare institutions across the country are expected to further integrate these diagnostic automation systems before the end of Q3 to manage mounting outpatient volumes.
