Anthropic Brings In-Country Claude Inference to India via Amazon Bedrock

Anthropic has launched in-country inference for its Claude model family in India through Amazon Bedrock, enabling regulated institutions and local enterprises to process AI workloads on domestic servers. The rollout covers Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4.5, allowing Indian users to send requests through a dedicated India endpoint.
The India geographic profile routes requests strictly between ap-south-1 and ap-south-2. Users can access these models alongside the already supported global cross-Region inference.
The expansion addresses strict data residency and governance requirements for heavily regulated sectors such as banking, insurance, and public administration. Executives noted that keeping data within national borders removes a primary barrier that often confines artificial intelligence experiments to pilot stages rather than full production deployment.
Meeting Data Sovereignty Mandates Under DPDP
The ability to process requests locally arrives as India implements data sovereignty frameworks under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act. Companies subject to strict local oversight face legal obligations regarding where sensitive information is handled. Local inference ensures compliance while allowing enterprises to scale advanced artificial intelligence workloads securely.
The DPDP Act mandates that enterprises maintain data sovereignty and process personal data within national borders, driving corporations to keep AI workloads inside India.
AWS India and South Asia President Sandeep Dutta noted that data residency acts as the deciding factor for whether automated systems transition into full operational use. Deployments through Amazon Bedrock in India also incorporate built-in audit trails and granular access controls required by internal risk and compliance departments.
Data processing occurs in India Regions in addition to previously established global cross-Region inference options. Meanwhile, the Data Security Council of India uses Claude Opus-powered agents to inspect codebases and infrastructure for vulnerabilities.
Early Adoption and Enterprise Integration
Major Indian corporations and digital platforms participated in private previews before the public release. Reliance and fintech firm CRED tested the infrastructure locally, citing performance benefits such as lower latency, enhanced resilience, and regulatory alignment.
IT services providers are also embedding the technology into enterprise workflows. Tata Consultancy Services is rolling out Claude to 50,000 associates as part of its delivery infrastructure, while the National Payments Corporation of India is utilising Claude to build AiNxt, its agentic enterprise platform. Other major groups including Mahindra and financial institutions such as Kotak Bank are integrating the models across internal systems and customer-facing operations.
Expansion of Local Ecosystem and Support
Anthropic has steadily expanded its footprint in India since establishing a corporate office in Bengaluru earlier in the year. The firm reported strong domestic participation in the Claude Partner Network launched in March, alongside a partner certification drive in Bengaluru that certified up to 5,000 local professionals.
India ranks among Anthropic's largest global markets and maintains a deep talent pool of software developers.
