Abu Dhabi ADNOC and G42 Partner With OpenAI for Energy Sector AI

State energy producer Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and technology enterprise G42 have signed a commercial partnership with OpenAI to integrate frontier artificial intelligence models across industrial operations, The Economic Times reported. The collaboration makes ADNOC the first company in the global energy sector to deploy OpenAI's frontier technology, The Economic Times noted. Signed during the ADIPEC energy conference in the United Arab Emirates, the agreement deepens technological relationships between the ChatGPT creator and regional industrial institutions. The ceremonial signing was attended by Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi alongside executive delegations, ANI News reported.
Executive Engagement and Computational Energy Requirements
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman travelled to Abu Dhabi to attend the energy summit and finalize corporate accords, The Economic Times reported. Altman emphasized that securing scalable energy supplies represents one of the foremost operational challenges facing modern artificial intelligence infrastructure, The Economic Times noted. He stated that OpenAI's frontier systems would be deployed to solve the most demanding and valuable technical challenges confronting energy production networks. Altman observed that while computing algorithms can become exponentially more cost-effective, physical energy infrastructure and generation constraints dictate the ultimate abundance of computational capabilities.
Higher demand prompted organizers to move the opening speech from ADNEC to the Abu Dhabi Energy Centre to make room for new partners and participants.
Domestic Infrastructure and Industrial Decision Support
Under the technical architecture, OpenAI's GPT reasoning models will run on domestic inference infrastructure operated in-country by G42, ANI News reported. The system combines advanced algorithmic reasoning with decades of industrial exploration records to connect reservoir development, capital allocation, and downstream commercial scheduling, ANI News noted. ADNOC representatives emphasized that company engineers and domain experts will retain ultimate oversight of all consequential operational decisions. The Abu Dhabi Media Office also disclosed that OpenAI concluded companion agreements with sovereign investment fund Mubadala and G42 subsidiary Inception42 to integrate AI algorithms for financial opportunity identification and risk analysis, The Economic Times reported.
Sovereign Capital Backing and Regional AI Hub Ambitions
The strategic alliance unfolds as OpenAI conducts accelerated fundraising that could value the artificial intelligence enterprise at over $1.4 trillion, The Economic Times reported. The software developer is seeking capital commitments from regional sovereign investment vehicles including Abu Dhabi-based MGX ahead of market debuts by industry peers. OpenAI is additionally collaborating on the initial development phase of a 5-gigawatt artificial intelligence data centre campus being constructed in the United Arab Emirates. The multi-sector partnership illustrates the UAE's broader ambition to establish the Gulf federation as a central international hub for high-capacity artificial intelligence deployment.
In October 2023, G42 announced a partnership with OpenAI to deliver AI solutions across the UAE and regional markets, according to PR Newswire.
