Vietnam Boat Tragedy: 15 Indian Tourists Dead as Repatriation Begins

Fifteen Indian tourists have died after a boat capsized near Phu Quoc island in Vietnam. Sixteen survivors are currently being repatriated to India, while one individual remains hospitalised under observation. Many of the victims were associated with the Indian electronics firm Lava Mobiles, whose Managing Director Sunil Raina expressed deep devastation over the loss of his colleagues. The vessel was reportedly carrying a group of tourists when it encountered difficulties shortly after departing from the shore.

Three of the deceased were identified as residents of Andhra Pradesh, including individuals from Kadapa and Machilipatnam. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has instructed state officials to provide all necessary assistance to the bereaved families. The Chief Minister is also ensuring that survivors from the state receive adequate medical care and safe passage back to their hometowns. Local authorities in Vietnam are currently working with Indian diplomats to verify the identities of all victims before finalizing transportation arrangements.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims following the unimaginable tragedy. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has commenced the formal repatriation process to fly the bodies of the 15 tourists back to India. Vietnamese authorities have ordered a high-level probe into the incident to determine if safety protocols were violated. This incident is expected to lead to stricter maritime regulations for tourist vessels in Southeast Asian holiday destinations popular with Indian travellers.
