Telangana Electoral Roll Revision Enters Critical Phase

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is overseeing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Telangana to ensure the database remains accurate and up-to-date. The exercise, which commenced on June 25, 2026, focuses on verifying the legitimacy of voters and purging entries that are duplicate, deceased, or ineligible. This comprehensive administrative effort is scheduled for completion with the final publication of the electoral rolls on October 1, 2026.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are currently engaged in extensive door-to-door enumeration, which is set to continue through July 24, 2026. Each BLO is required to visit every household at least three times, distributing pre-printed enumeration forms to facilitate the process. According to the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana, C. Sudarshan Reddy, nearly 1.73 crore enumeration forms have been successfully distributed in the first four days. The commission has mandated strict adherence to accuracy, threatening legal consequences for any officials who fail to maintain the integrity of the voter list.

To maintain trust, political parties have been invited to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to oversee the work of the BLOs. These agents are expected to reside locally and provide the necessary oversight to prevent omissions. Following the completion of fieldwork, the draft electoral roll will be published on July 31, 2026, kicking off a subsequent window for claims and objections. Residents can use the official ECI app and the voter helpline (1950) to verify their details or file online submissions during the upcoming review periods.
