The Brazilian publisher Afil Games has been officially removed from the PlayStation Store following a crackdown by Sony on low-quality software, commonly referred to as "shovelware." The publisher, known for releasing hundreds of simplified, budget-tier games designed for trophy hunters, acknowledged that their high-volume business model is no longer compatible with the updated publishing guidelines implemented by PlayStation earlier this year. This action follows a similar purge involving the German publisher ThiGames, which saw approximately 150 titles removed from the platform.

Sony’s stricter stance reflects a broader push by console manufacturers to maintain quality control across their digital storefronts, which have been increasingly cluttered with clones and low-effort software. For Afil Games, the removal of their extensive catalog—reportedly exceeding 900 titles—marks the end of their partnership with the PlayStation ecosystem. The publisher expressed gratitude to its user base in a public statement but confirmed that its future releases will now focus exclusively on alternative platforms, including Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
