Roblox Implements Global Age-Based Account Framework for Minors

Roblox has officially launched its age-based account framework, 'Roblox Kids' and 'Roblox Select,' to its global user base, including significant updates for players in India. This safety initiative automatically assigns accounts based on a user's age, with Roblox Kids catering to users aged 5 to 8 and Roblox Select designed for those aged 9 to 15. The system integrates advanced age verification, content moderation, and stricter parental controls to customize the platform experience for younger children while maintaining accessibility for teenagers.

The framework enforces distinct content maturity ratings for each account type; Roblox Kids accounts are limited to games with 'Minimal' or 'Mild' ratings, and chat functions are disabled by default. Parents retain granular control over these profiles, with the ability to manage spending, screen time, and monitor friend lists until the child reaches the age of 16. This rollout follows successful pilot programs in markets like Australia, New Zealand, and Indonesia, marking a systemic move to standardize safety across the platform.

As part of this transition, Roblox plans to adopt the International Age Rating Coalition (IARC) framework later this year to unify age-based game ratings globally. The platform is also actively restricting the sharing of social media links, images, and videos in chat for all users under 16. For Indian parents and users, these changes represent a shift toward a more regulated digital environment, necessitating active management and verification of linked accounts to ensure continued full functionality.
