Rajasthan Police Detain Instagrammer Over RSS Video: Congress Alleges Dictatorship

A 25-year-old Instagrammer, identified as Naveen, was detained by Rajasthan Police in Jhunjhunu following the posting of a video critical of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The video depicted two groups of children, contrasting RSS-style activities with other sports-focused pursuits, and included commentary regarding the perceived influence of the organization. Naveen alleged that police arrived at his residence in multiple vehicles, seized his phone, and subjected him to mental and physical torture during his confinement, claims which the local Kotwali police have officially denied.

Kotwali SHO Shrawan Kumar Meel stated that the user was detained for a 'breach of peace' after the video went viral and complaints were received regarding the potential for social discord. The police department maintained that the action was taken to maintain law and order and explicitly denied any political motivation or use of force during the detention. Despite this, the Congress party has utilized the incident to challenge the state government's approach to dissent. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra have publicly condemned the detention, characterizing it as an act of 'outright dictatorship' and questioning the legal basis for the police intervention.
