Political Row Deepens Over Ayodhya Ram Mandir Donation Theft

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues its probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Authorities have recovered cash, gold ornaments, and a vehicle from several individuals, including Lavkush Mishra, Anukalp Mishra, and Karunesh Pandey. Prime accused Avinash Shukla remains central to the investigation, with police seizing over Rs 20.39 lakh in cash, US currency, and various valuables linked to the racket. Initial findings suggest that temple staff were involved in systematically pilfering funds from the counting room, often by concealing cash in their clothing.

The theft has triggered a heated exchange between political parties and religious bodies. Congress leader Rashid Alvi drew sharp condemnation by likening the accused to 11th-century invader Mahmud of Ghazni, prompting demands for a judicial inquiry. Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has publicly targeted the RSS and BJP, questioning their moral standing and suggesting potential financial impropriety within these organizations. The controversy has reached a boiling point, with the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) formally requesting that Ayodhya police summon opposition leaders—including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Arvind Kejriwal—to substantiate their claims regarding the magnitude of the theft.

The resignation of Champat Rai, the former general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, marks a significant leadership shift amidst the scandal. As the investigation progresses, the focus shifts to whether opposition leaders can provide evidence for their claims of widespread corruption.
