PM Modi Launches ₹216-Crore ESIC Hospital in Surat: Boosting Healthcare for 12 Lakh Workers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has virtually inaugurated a new two-hundred-and-twenty-bed Employees' State Insurance Corporation hospital in Surat, Gujarat. Developed at an estimated project cost of two hundred and sixteen crore rupees, this state-of-the-art facility is part of a broader package of regional development initiatives valued at eighteen thousand eight hundred crore rupees. The hospital, constructed across an expansive eight-point-six-acre campus, aims to provide high-quality medical services to the region's expanding organized workforce and ESI beneficiaries.

The newly established facility will serve as a critical healthcare lifeline for approximately three-point-two lakh insured persons and over twelve lakh beneficiaries across the industrial hubs of Surat, Navsari, and Valsad. Located twenty minutes from Surat Railway Station, the multi-specialty hospital provides general medicine, oncology, surgery, obstetrics, gynecology, psychiatry, and emergency services. This expansion significantly strengthens Gujarat's existing social security infrastructure, which has provided medical coverage to workers since its inception in October 1964.

Going forward, the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment plans to integrate this hospital into Gujarat's wider state insurance network to streamline cashless treatments and expedite cash benefit disbursements. During the inaugural event, local authorities directly disbursed monetary benefits to several ESI beneficiaries and recognized the construction workers who built the campus. This infrastructure expansion reflects the government's central strategy to ensure that economic growth is matched with robust social and healthcare protections for industrial laborers.
