Tamil Nadu Cabinet Unveils 436 Projects As Odisha Vigilance Busts Corrupt Engineer

In its first major cabinet meeting since taking power, the Joseph Vijay-led Tamil Nadu government introduced a massive agenda featuring 436 development projects under the title 'Vetri Tamizhagam.' The cabinet focused on creating a "drug-free Tamil Nadu," empowering youth and women, and establishing corruption-free governance as a primary goal. Key agenda items included the state budget and a review of Tasmac operations, signaling a rapid start to the TVK administration's legislative term.

Parallelly, the Odisha Vigilance department unearthed staggering assets belonging to government engineer Baikuntha Nath Behera. Despite earning a modest monthly salary starting at ₹6,000, Behera was found in possession of ₹2 crore in cash, 14 land plots, five buildings, and 341 grams of gold. This high-profile bust by the anti-corruption wing highlights the ongoing systemic battle against financial misconduct in state-level infrastructure departments and has sparked public outrage over the scale of the accumulation.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Central government approved ₹72.42 crore for the development of the Ameenabad harbour. The project is designed to facilitate the anchoring of 2,500 boats and is expected to handle approximately 1.10 lakh tonnes of cargo annually. This investment aims to boost the regional maritime economy and provide better facilities for the local fishing community, aligning with national efforts to modernize coastal infrastructure across southern India.
