Kim Jong Un Tests Nuclear-Capable Destroyer Amid Indo-Pacific Tensions

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally supervised a series of military tests aboard the country's new 5,000-ton destroyer, the Kang Kon. The exercises included the firing of a nuclear-capable strategic cruise missile, alongside trials of the ship's main guns and electronic warfare systems. The Kang Kon had previously suffered damage during a botched launch ceremony in 2025 but was successfully repaired and relaunched last month.
