NHAI Allocates Funds for Key Himachal Highway Restoration Projects

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has fast-tracked critical repair works on two major national highways in Himachal Pradesh to ensure road safety and connectivity. A total of Rs 83.01 crore is being deployed for the Pathankot-Chamba-Bharmour stretch of National Highway-154A. Simultaneously, the agency has prioritized the urgent restoration of the Hanogi Tunnel (T4-02) and the adjoining Hanogi bridge located on the strategic Kiratpur-Manali highway in Mandi district.

These restoration projects follow severe damage sustained by state infrastructure during the previous monsoon season. The NHAI’s intervention aims to secure the structural integrity of these vital mountain routes, which serve as lifelines for local residents and tourists. The agency has already engaged contractors for the Hanogi stretch, with M/s Gawar Mandi Highways Pvt. Ltd. tasked with stabilization work, while contracts for the NH-154A stretch are expected to be awarded imminently.

Completing these repairs ahead of the annual Manimahesh Yatra is the primary objective for the NH-154A project to prevent travel disruptions for pilgrims. For the Kiratpur-Manali highway, the immediate focus remains on stabilizing critical tunnel and bridge sections to maintain safe transit through the Mandi district. These efforts are part of a broader push to harden Himachal Pradesh’s mountain roads against climate-induced volatility and monsoon damage, ensuring that essential supply chains and passenger movement remain functional throughout the year.
