The controversy arises from investigative reporting alleging a substantial increase in the land holdings of the Yadav family between 2021 and 2025. Records indicate that while the BJP claims land holdings have remained stagnant since the Chief Minister assumed office, data suggests significant property acquisitions occurred during his tenure as a Minister and subsequently as Chief Minister. Specifically, the reported acquisition of plots in Ujjain near major infrastructure project sites has become the focal point of the allegations, with critics pointing to potential insider advantage regarding the Ujjain Master Plan 2035.

The Congress party has escalated its criticism, demanding a formal investigation into the accumulation of properties. While the BJP has vehemently rejected these claims, at least one state minister, Rakesh Singh, indicated no personal objection to an official inquiry into the matter.
