PM Modi To Consult Central Secretaries On Deregulation Reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet with all Central secretaries on Tuesday to deliberate on comprehensive deregulation and structural reforms. The briefing follows the Prime Minister's official visit to Seychelles and emphasizes his government’s ongoing commitment to improving the ease of doing business and the ease of living. This session marks the second significant institutional interaction between the executive leadership and top bureaucracy in less than two months, following a joint meeting on May 21 focused on the vision for a Viksit Bharat.

The government has accelerated its focus on reform through dedicated institutional frameworks. High-level committees, including the High-Level Committee on Non-Financial Regulatory Reforms (HLC-NFRR) chaired by Rajiv Gauba, have been reviewing legacy regulations and certifications to modernize the administrative framework. A secondary Task Force on Deregulation and Compliance Reduction, led by IAS officer KK Pathak, is currently implementing directives to simplify compliance requirements. These efforts are designed to create a trust-based regulatory environment suited to 21st-century requirements, with specific secretaries assigned to oversee state-level implementation.

Each secretary will receive a three-minute window to present specific achievements and proposed action plans for deregulation within their respective departments. This meeting is expected to address both the implementation of central reforms and the broader agenda of promoting Atmanirbharta across industries. While speculation regarding a potential Cabinet reshuffle has surfaced in political circles, there has been no official confirmation from the government. The primary focus remains on tightening policy execution and ensuring that the structural changes prioritized by the current administration yield tangible benefits for the national economy before the upcoming monsoon legislative session.
