MeitY Launches National AI Skilling Initiative To Train One Million Professionals

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially launched a massive National AI Skilling Initiative aimed at training one million Indian professionals over the next two years. This program, developed alongside top academic and industry partners, focuses on critical domains including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan confirmed that the first phase will target 150,000 enrollments by the end of 2026.

This initiative is a strategic move to transform India into a global AI talent hub. By standardizing AI education, the government aims to bridge the current skill gap that prevents domestic firms from scaling advanced automation projects. The program is designed to foster innovation across diverse sectors, ensuring that the Indian workforce remains competitive as global enterprises increasingly shift their AI research and development operations to the subcontinent.

The government will monitor the program's efficacy through industry-led placement metrics and certification standards. By mid-2027, the influx of trained professionals is expected to lower hiring costs for domestic startups and multinational corporations alike.
