Marius Borg Hoiby Sentenced to Four Years Prison for Rape in Oslo District Court

The Oslo District Court has sentenced 29-year-old Marius Borg Hoiby, the stepson of Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon, to four years in prison. The court convicted him of two counts of rape and multiple charges including domestic violence against former partner Nora Haukland, and various drug-related offences. While prosecutors had initially sought a seven-year-and-seven-month term, the judges cleared him of two additional rape charges, citing insufficient evidence of non-consent in those instances. Hoiby, who is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a previous relationship, was not present in court for the verdict due to medical reasons.

The trial, which concluded after six weeks, focused on allegations spanning from 2018 to 2024. Evidence included videos recovered from Hoiby's phone, which showed victims in states of incapacity or sleep during the incidents. Throughout the proceedings, the defense maintained that Hoiby was not guilty of sexual assault, though he had admitted to lesser charges of assault, property damage, and narcotics possession.
