Labour MP Sues Elon Musk's xAI Over AI-Generated Sexualised Images

Jess Asato, a Labour Member of Parliament, has initiated legal proceedings in the high court in London against Elon Musk's xAI company. The lawsuit alleges that xAI's Grok AI tool was used by a user to generate fake sexualised images of Asato, including one depicting her being chloroformed and prepared for sexual assault, which she found violating and psychologically distressing.

Asato's case is being framed as a potential test case for holding AI developers responsible for the content generated by their tools, arguing that xAI breached data protection and misuse of private information laws. Her legal team contends that AI companies must answer for the design choices that enable harmful outputs, asserting that developers could have implemented safeguards to prevent such imagery.

This lawsuit follows a similar claim filed in New York by Ashley St Clair, another individual targeted by Grok-generated explicit imagery. The situation highlights a growing concern over the misuse of AI for creating non-consensual sexualised content, a trend that saw millions of such images generated on Musk's platform X earlier this year. While xAI initially placed such content behind a paywall and later limited its ability to generate images of real people, new claimants are now coming forward seeking legal recourse.
