India To Integrate AI Into Criminal Justice System By December 2026

Top government officials have confirmed that Artificial Intelligence will be fully integrated into India's new criminal laws by December 2026. This initiative follows the two-year anniversary of the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which officially marked their second year on July 1, 2026. The integration aims to streamline legal processes, enhance data accuracy, and improve the overall efficiency of the judicial system through automated case management and predictive analytics.

The push for modernization has already yielded measurable results in legal compliance. Over 1.6 million personnel have undergone rigorous training to adapt to the new legal framework. Data indicates that compliance rates for cases requiring resolution within 60 days have surged from 52% in 2024 to 66.35% in 2026. Similarly, cases subject to the 90-day resolution period saw compliance rise from 43% to 59.63%. These improvements reflect the successful adoption of digital tools and the ongoing transition toward a tech-enabled legal infrastructure.

The national implementation score for these laws has climbed significantly, rising from 46.5% in November 2025 to 70.06% in June 2026. By leveraging AI, the government intends to further reduce case backlogs and ensure that the judicial process remains transparent and time-bound. This technological shift is expected to provide law enforcement and judicial officers with the necessary support to handle complex investigations more effectively, ultimately strengthening the rule of law across the country as the system matures.
