India Rejects Value of Track-2 Dialogue with Pakistan

The Indian government has dismissed the significance of reported 'Track-2' dialogue between Indian and Pakistani officials, stating that it holds no official value or recognition. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikram Misri emphasized that India does not take cognisance of these informal, unofficial interactions. This clarification follows reports of recent meetings involving retired officials and envoys, which observers noted as surviving even amidst periods of intense diplomatic friction and past terror incidents.

The emergence of these discussions has sparked sharp domestic political debate. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has leveled strong criticism at the current administration, questioning the duality of labeling domestic political opponents as 'jihadi' while reportedly maintaining back-channel communications with Pakistan. He specifically called out figures such as Ram Madhav, demanding consistency in the government’s approach to external engagement versus its internal political rhetoric.

The government's rejection of these unofficial talks aligns with its broader policy of linking diplomatic normalization to the cessation of cross-border violence. India recently condemned Pakistan's airstrikes on Afghan territory, labeling them as desperate acts of violence that reflect a volatile regional security climate.
