Hezbollah Leader Naim Qassem Demands Unconditional Israeli Withdrawal From Lebanon

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has formally demanded that Israel withdraw its military forces from Lebanon unconditionally. Delivered during a televised address on the Muslim holy day of Ashura, Qassem’s remarks highlight the deepening impasse in US-mediated ceasefire talks, which have been extended to seek a breakthrough in the ongoing conflict.

Despite the extension of negotiations in Washington, violence persists in southern Lebanon. Israeli military forces continue to occupy deep positions within a self-declared security zone, with recent reports indicating skirmishes in Beit Yahoun and air raids near Nabatieh al-Fawqa. Hezbollah has rejected any normalization of relations or concessions to Israel, characterizing the recent US-Iran ceasefire terms as a failed attempt to erode Lebanese sovereignty.

Efforts are currently underway by France and Italy to form an international coalition to manage security arrangements in the region, particularly as the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mandate approaches its end later this year. Meanwhile, Israeli officials maintain that their military presence remains necessary, conditioning any further territorial pullbacks on the full disarmament of Hezbollah and the removal of their infrastructure from areas north of the Litani River.
