RPF Fines 32 Tourists for Trekking on Dudhsagar Railway Tracks

Thirty-two tourists were fined by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) after being caught trekking illegally along railway tracks to reach Dudhsagar Falls. The action occurred during a surprise enforcement drive conducted by the Hubballi Division on July 5, 2026. Each individual faced a penalty of ₹500, with cases filed under Section 147 of the Railways Act, as amended under the Jan Vishwas Act.

South Western Railway prohibits public access to the waterfall via the railway route to prioritize safety, especially during the active monsoon season. The tracks are considered hazardous due to slippery terrain and high-speed train traffic. Railway authorities have issued multiple warnings regarding the dangers of trespassing, noting that such activities pose risks to both the trekkers and the train operators.

Under the guidance of Senior Divisional Security Commissioner Alok Kumar, the RPF has ramped up surveillance throughout the Dudhsagar region. This crackdown aims to deter future trespassing attempts by enforcing strict penalties for non-compliance. Authorities advise tourists to use only authorized transport methods and paths, warning that strict enforcement will continue until all unauthorized trekking activities cease.
