BJP Labels INDIA Bloc Defunct Following DMK Withdrawal From Alliance Meetings

The INDIA bloc faces significant instability after the DMK announced its withdrawal from upcoming coordination meetings, citing dissatisfaction with the Congress party’s recent alliance strategies. The BJP has seized upon this development, declaring the opposition coalition effectively defunct and existing only on paper. Tensions escalated following the Congress party’s tactical pivot toward the TVK, which recently secured a victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, creating friction among established regional partners.

The political landscape remains fluid as senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh shifted focus to governance issues, writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demand a white paper regarding NTA examination leaks over the past eight years. While Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut continues to publicly affirm unity within the INDIA bloc, acknowledging the DMK’s distancing as a consequence of regional poll results, he characterized the TVK as an alternative friend for the alliance. This rebranding of alliances underscores the complex efforts by opposition leaders to maintain a cohesive front against the ruling government.

Political analysts and party insiders maintain that the fragmentation at the state level does not necessarily preclude cooperation in Parliament. Karti P. Chidambaram noted that the Congress continues to work alongside parties like the CPI(M) and the Trinamool Congress, despite competing with them directly in various state arenas. The bloc’s ability to reconcile its regional ambitions with the necessity of a national strategy will serve as the critical determinant of its survival in the current legislative session.
