Delhi Healthcare Corruption Probe and National Digital Health Rollout

The Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding an alleged procurement scam involving a medical syndicate. Investigators claim that this cartel systematically inflated the costs of medical equipment and supplies, causing substantial financial losses to the public exchequer. The investigation into these procurement irregularities is ongoing, with authorities focusing on identifying the vendors and officials involved in the scheme.

In an effort to enhance administrative transparency and efficiency, the Government of India is deploying the eSushrut@Clinic platform for small outpatient clinics across the country. Designed as a lightweight Hospital Management Information System (HMIS), the digital tool simplifies patient record management and administrative workflows. Currently, over 800 health facilities have integrated with the platform, resulting in the creation of more than 680 records. This digital push is part of a broader national mandate to modernize health infrastructure and curb inefficiencies.

While the digitization of primary clinics advances, medical experts are highlighting significant gaps in the national healthcare ecosystem, particularly regarding the aging population. Current insurance structures in India predominantly focus on hospitalizations, often excluding critical home-based medical care for the elderly. Healthcare advocates are increasingly calling for policy reforms to expand insurance coverage to outpatient and home-care treatments, which are becoming essential for the long-term recovery and well-being of senior citizens who suffer from limited mobility.
