Delhi Government Launches ₹15,000 Crore EV Policy To Expand Charging Infrastructure

The Delhi government has officially launched its ambitious EV Policy 2026, effective July 1, 2026, aimed at accelerating the transition to electric mobility. The policy allocates nearly ₹15,000 crore over the next four years to support the EV ecosystem, with ₹7,000 crore specifically earmarked for incentives. A central goal is to expand the city's charging network from 9,000 to 32,000 points by 2028.

To ensure widespread accessibility, the policy introduces a single-window clearance system for charging station approvals. Furthermore, it mandates that all vehicle dealerships install at least one public charging station on their premises. These stations must include a minimum of three charging points for two- and three-wheelers and two for four-wheelers, effectively turning every dealership into a node in the city's growing electric infrastructure.

The policy provides significant financial relief to buyers, including subsidies of up to ₹30,000 for electric two-wheelers, ₹50,000 for three-wheelers, and ₹1 lakh for goods carriers. Additionally, electric cars priced up to ₹30 lakh are eligible for a 100 percent exemption on road tax and registration fees. These measures are designed to lower the total cost of ownership and encourage mass adoption of electric vehicles among Delhi residents and businesses alike.
