CBI Raids 80 Locations in Nationwide Digital Arrest Scam Crackdown

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a massive coordinated operation, conducting raids at over 80 locations across India to dismantle networks involved in sophisticated digital arrest scams. These criminal operations typically involve fraudsters posing as law enforcement officials who contact victims via video calls, falsely claiming that the victim is under investigation for illegal activities to extort large sums of money under the guise of bail or settlement fees.

This large-scale intervention follows a series of regional successes, including a week-long drive by Cyberabad police which resulted in 15 arrests and the recovery of ₹2 crore for victims of similar digital fraud schemes. Additionally, local authorities in Cyberabad recently apprehended two individuals involved in a separate visa extension fraud, underscoring the prevalence of organized financial crimes targeting unsuspecting residents through digital impersonation and document tampering.

Law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to disrupt these syndicates as the frequency of cyber-enabled financial extortion grows. The CBI-led operation aims to map out the financial trails and organizational structures behind these scams, with officials signaling a broader strategy to secure victim funds and dismantle the underlying infrastructure used by these cyber-criminal groups across the country.
