Belding India Unveils Hybrid BESS to Slash Diesel Dependency

Belding India Limited has launched an indigenously developed Hybrid Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at India Energy Storage Week (IESW) 2026. The solution, unveiled by Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik, targets industrial and critical infrastructure sectors. The system integrates battery technology with existing diesel generator (DG) power plants to enhance voltage regulation and maintain supply stability. By providing instant backup power during transition phases, the system improves overall site reliability while reducing noise and carbon emissions.

The core function of this Hybrid BESS is to optimize diesel generator performance by reducing fuel consumption by 40 to 80 percent, depending on load profiles. Company officials noted that the system enables generators to operate within their most efficient load bands, significantly lowering diesel runtime. This transition minimizes maintenance requirements and extends the physical lifespan of diesel-based equipment, effectively lowering the total cost of ownership for operators in sectors like manufacturing, airports, and telecommunications.

Beyond fuel savings, the system facilitates the seamless integration of renewable energy sources, specifically solar power, into existing grids. This capability aligns with national decarbonization goals while providing a stable, reliable energy buffer against sudden demand spikes. The firm aims to deploy the technology across diverse environments including mining operations, defence installations, and large-scale construction projects. These sectors now face increased pressure to reduce operational footprints, making such indigenous storage solutions a critical component in the evolution of Indian industrial power management.
