Father Demands Justice After Nine-Year-Old Australian Girl Killed by Police in Pakistan

Nine-year-old Hania Ahmed, a student from Perth, Australia, was killed in Chakwal, Pakistan, after police opened fire on her family's car. Her father, Adeel Ahmed, survived with gunshot wounds, while her 11-year-old brother Aafan remains hospitalized in Rawalpindi. The incident occurred shortly before midnight as the family attempted to flee from armed robbers outside a relative's residence.

Officers from the newly formed Crime Control Department (CCD) opened fire with machine guns, an action they claim was a mistaken attempt to stop suspects they believed were in the family vehicle. The CCD, established in May 2025, has faced significant criticism from the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan for alleged extrajudicial killings. Witnesses stated that CCD officials fired directly at the fleeing car despite the family's clear efforts to evade the encounter.

The Australian government has called for a transparent investigation into the tragedy. Punjab police have suspended and arrested the officer responsible for discharging his weapon, and a formal judicial inquiry is underway. Hania's father has publicly demanded that the authorities address the risks posed by the CCD’s tactical methods to ensure such a fatal error does not repeat.
