Assam Government Announces Massive Healthcare Recruitment Drive For Sub-Centres

The Assam government has launched a major healthcare expansion project on July 10, 2026, aimed at strengthening the state's primary health infrastructure. The initiative involves the creation of approximately 33,240 new posts across the health sector, marking a significant investment in human resources. A key component of this plan is the deployment of at least one MBBS doctor at every Health Sub-Centre in the state, a move that officials describe as the first of its kind in India.

The recruitment drive is comprehensive, targeting the hiring of approximately 6,814 MBBS doctors and approximately 10,942 Staff Nurses. By filling these critical positions, the state government aims to bridge the gap in healthcare accessibility, particularly in rural and underserved areas. This effort is expected to enhance the quality of primary care services, ensuring that residents have access to qualified medical professionals for routine check-ups, emergency care, and maternal health services closer to their homes.
