AIIMS Bibinagar Expected to Be Fully Operational by December 2026

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bibinagar, Telangana, is on track to become fully operational by December 2026. Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda confirmed this timeline on July 9, 2026, following a formal inspection of the facility's progress. Construction is currently 87% complete, with the final stages focusing on the installation of advanced radiography equipment and the completion of sophisticated operation theatre complexes. The facility represents a significant infrastructure push in the region's healthcare sector.

Despite ongoing construction, the institution is already providing critical medical services. With 132 faculty members and 133 senior doctors, it currently supports MBBS, MD, and specialized DM/MCh academic programs. The outpatient department (OPD) maintains a steady flow of approximately 1,800 patients daily, and the facility has integrated modern digital health solutions like the e-Sanjeevani telemedicine system. Beyond clinical care, AIIMS Bibinagar has established itself as an academic hub with over 1,150 research publications and roughly ₹64 crore in secured research grants. It notably operates the nation's first AIIMS-based Community Radio Station.

The project, sanctioned in June 2022 with a budget of approximately ₹1,100 crore, exemplifies the broader expansion of medical education and public health facilities across India. Minister Nadda noted that the current administration has significantly scaled national healthcare capacity, increasing the number of functional AIIMS institutions and elevating the total count of medical colleges nationwide from 370 to 820. For rural populations in Telangana, the institute acts as a key healthcare anchor, having already adopted six nearby villages and conducted over 540 medical camps to reach approximately 66,000 residents. The full commissioning of the hospital is expected to bridge critical gaps in tertiary healthcare access for local communities by the end of the year.
